About Motomachi

Live Town Project

Live Town Project On January 18, 2004, the first stage of construction for the third phase of Motomachi community planning (part of the Yokohama City renovation project) was completed with the opening of the Motomachi-Chukagai Station on the Minatomirai Line.

All roads in Motomachi were paved with natural Argentinian stone and are now easier for pedestrians to cross, an especially pleasing improvement for our female customers. The public squares at the heart of the each community’s neighborhood have been renovated to be barrier-free and are now lined with trees and benches, much like courtyards at a hotel. These squares are also equipped with information bulletin boards.

In the afternoons, fashionable families take walks with their dogs in the warm sun; in the evenings, couples stroll arm-in-arm in the romantic ambience created by the streets’ mood lighting. Our mission is to give our visitors the kind of moving experience they can find nowhere else in the world, but Yokohama Motomachi.
The second phase of construction, which began in 2004, involves paving sidewalks with stone, installing street furniture and facilities, and adding lighting. These improvements will create the perfect atmosphere for pleasant strolls along the neighboring Naka-dori Street, Kawagishi-dori Street, and Minamimon-dori Street of Chinatown.
